Sixty years ago, on April 12, 1961, the Vostok-1 spacecraft with Yuri Gagarin on board was launched from the Baikonur cosmodrome into low-earth orbit. The flight of the first cosmonaut marked the breakthrough of mankind into outer space.
On March 31, 2021, the Bank of Russia issued commemorative coins “60th Anniversary of the First Manned Space Flight” into circulation.
Coins made of base metal on the obverse also bear the coat of arms of Russia, on the reverse there is a relief image of a flying figure of a man with wings against the background of a stylized image of the starry sky made in color; there are inscriptions, at the top along the inner circle: "APRIL 12, 1961", on the ring: "60 YEARS OF THE FIRST FLIGHT OF MAN IN SPACE".
The mintage of the coin is 150.0 thousand pieces.
